Andrew was born in Woodbury but has spent most of his life living in Milliwick, moving with his parents to a small terraced house in the High Street when he was nine. From there they moved to the semi-detached home in Church Road and later, as his father’s finances improved, to the house they now own in Boundary Road.

He did well at school and went on to university where he gained a degree in mechanical engineering. He joined his father’s company where he started from the bottom up, agreeing that if he was to achieve the same respect that his father had earned from his employees, he should spend some time in each department, from the cleaning staff to the accounts section to know and understand each minute part of what was the company as a whole. He sometimes found it frustrating, painting old machinery instead of devising new production lines but soon learned that employee relations was often more important than change for change’s sake and that when modifications did have to be made, progress was smoother when management and employees could each understand the other’s point of view.

His grounding completed, it was a proud day for both him and his father when the words ‘And Son’ were added to the sign over the factory gates.

Andy has known Nathan since starting secondary school when he was one of a group of new pupils he had the task of showing round the huge comprehensive on his first day. Nathan was the older boy that group would turn to for help in settling in but when Andy was being bullied in the playgrounds for being a ‘boff’ Nathan saw red and took that responsibility a step further by standing shoulder to shoulder in a fist fight that was to lose him his prefect’s badge but gain him a lifelong friend.

Currently: Andy has recently married and is now living in Woodbury.
